Human Rights Defenders

Human rights defenders are esstential for the strengthening and consolidation of democracy.

Nevertheless, their efforts are frequently blocked by the stigmatization of their work and the criminalization of their activities. The level of impunity in cases of threats, intimidation, assasinations, and other forms of violence against human rights defenders is alarming.

There is a growing tendency to obstruct or discourage the defense and promotion of human rights, for example through the imposition of legal restrictions to the full exercise of the right of association and limiting human rights organizations’ access external financial resources.

DPLF undertakes investigations regarding the situation of human rights defenders and  advocates for the elimination of obstacles to their efforts. DPLF also promotes the dialogue between civil society and government authorities, and provides technical assistance in the use of international mechanisms to protect human rights defenders and for denunciations.
