During the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) that will be held this June in Guatemala, three new members will be elected to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR). Given the importance of the elections and to encourage civil society to learn more about the candidates, the Washington Office on Latin America (WOLA) and the Due Process of Law Foundation (DPLF) would like to invite you to an informal discussion with Professor James L. Cavallaro, candidate to the IACHR. Mr. Cavallaro will share with participants his perspectives and main concerns with the current situation of human rights in the hemisphere. He will also be available to answer questions from participants.  

 
Professor Cavallaro has extensive experience in the Inter-American system for the protection of human rights and has worked closely with victims and grassroots organizations. He is currently Professor of Law and founding director of Stanford Law School’s International Human Rights and Conflict Resolution Clinic as well as the Stanford Human Rights Center. Before his appointment at Stanford, he was a clinical professor of law and Executive Director of the Human Rights Program at Harvard Law School. Cavallaro has spent over a decade living and working in Latin America.
